ART 110 – Final Project

ART 110 Final

The final project for 2D Design was given as a culmination of everything we’d done that semester. We were required to take at least one image that we had taken during that semester and edit it to create a solid composition and reflect at least six design elements given to us at the start of the year. We could print out a copy of it and edit it physically or.. Read More

ART 110 – Grid Patterns

Grid Patterns

This assignment required us to draw a grid of interlacing patterns where for every black edge that touched another square, we had to leave edge on the next square white. We then had to select a minimum of ten squares to blow up to 11×14 black and white paintings for use in a bigger design. I chose mine in the shape that I did because I didn’t want to go.. Read More

ART 110 – Study in Black, White, and Gray

Study in Black, White, and Gray - Painting

This project required us to do create a copy of a painting from a famous artist. There were actually two copies of the painting that were required: one done in pencil, the other in acrylic paint. My artist for this assignment was John Singer Sargent, and my copies were of his painting “The Old Chair”.

ART 110 – Dot, Line, and Plane

ART 110 - Dot, Line and Shape - Dot

Dot, Line, and Plane was our first assignment in 2D Design, and the goal was to have an assignment on the very basics of drawing that stripped everything down to its most basic forms: dots, lines, and planes. We had to do three paintings, one for each element, using only black paint on white paper. The purpose of this was to get us thinking about the elements of design in.. Read More

ART 200 – Final Project

ART 200 Final - Figure

Our final project for ART 200 was to choose a specific emotion and do two drawings based on that emotion. The first drawing was a black and white drawing of a specific part of the human body meant to represent that emotion. The second drawing was an abstract representation of the emotion in color. We were allowed to use any material we wanted as long as it met the project.. Read More

ART 200 – Project 1

ART 200 - Project 1 Drawing 3

Our first project in Drawing 2 was to take a small object and do three drawings of that object. The three drawings had to follow a separate theme for each drawing: line and texture, form and shape, and space. The drawings also had to get progressively closer to the object with each drawing. I chose an orienteering compass for my subject, and my three drawings can be viewed below.

ART 200 – Outside Drawings

ART 200 - Outside Drawing #2

A weekly assignment we had in drawing two was to do a drawing outside of class on a particular subject. The assignment topics ranged widely over the semester and had various thematic, material, and compositional¬†constraints. At the conclusion of the semester, we had completed 8¬†outside drawings. The drawings, and descriptions of their content, are in the gallery below.

NMD 344 – Video Essay

Our final project for NMD 344 was to create a video essay with a clear topic, explanation of the topic, and conclusion. The audio for the essay could be recorded or taken from an already existing piece; the only requirement was that we could not use any visual material from the source we also got the audio from. My essay was based off the Vlogbrothers’ video Addicted to Outrage, and.. Read More

NMD 344 – The Color Experiment

The Color Experiment

One our last projects before we moved fully into After Effects was we were assigned a color and told to make a movie poster about the color without using our color anywhere in the poster. I was assigned blue (#0000ff to be exact). I chose a corporate setting because blue is often used in corporate color schemes. Blue is also a symbol for coldness and aloofness, hence the blacked out.. NMD 344 – Kinetic Typography

Our first significant project in After Effects in NMD 344 was to create a kinetic typography piece. We could choose a monologue from a movie/TV show/TED talk or lyrics from a song. I chose Heath Ledger’s “Why so serious?” monologue from The Dark Knight because I love Heath Ledger’s Joker and it’s a fantastic monologue.
